Why is Fast Food so Bad? #5

In the article "Why is Fast Food so Bad" by The Training Studio, information is released on what fast food can really do to your body. A known fact is that people usually buy food from places like McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. because of how cheap it is. The only thing people don't realize, is one of the main harms it can do is clog up your arteries and lead to heart disease. People see many advertisements of fast food places on the TV, internet, and other sources. From this article, it reads that every ad shown increases the amount of hamburgers and fries sold than salads. The prices are even increasing for the price of fattening foods and cheaper for salads, but the problem is the higher prices are being bought more.
After reading this article, I definitely have to agree with all the facts shown. In this society today, you see more obesity and diabetics than ever before. People are spending their money every day on unhealthy foods but not caring a less. This article does mention how exercise can help prevent these issues if you consume this type of food daily, but another issue is that body really exercises on a daily basis, especially after eating a Big Mac or so. The brightest move for anyone to make would be to cut fast food out of their diet completely. This would help many people in many ways and for the rest of their life.

Interaction

On Saturday May 1,2010 Katelyn Booker and I ate fast food for all three meals, with no exercise. On Tuesday May 4, 2010 we both ate three healthy meals. On these two days we were seeing what effects eating fast food had on us. On Saturday for breakfast we ate at Chick-fil-a and had a chicken biscuit with hashbrowns. For lunch we went to Milo's and had chicken fingers and french fries. For dinner we went to Zaxby's and got a chicken sanwhich with french fries. On Tuesday, the day we ate healthy for breakfast I ate Granola, and an apple. For lunch I ate a turkey sandwhich and baked chips. For dinner I had a grilled chicken salad.
What I learned from this was that on Saturday when I ate all fast food, I felt like I had no energy. My body felt full, and I felt fat all day. I feel like the fats from all of the fried foods had just taken away all my energy. I tried to run a mile like I do everyday, and it was very difficult and it was definatly a struggle, where as normally I could do very fast, with almost no problem at all. On Tuedsay the day I ate healthy, I just felt as if I had so much energy. I felt great about myself and my stomach never really got full, but I wasn't hungry all day. When I went to run, I did it so easily, I even ran a little bit extra because I just felt good about the way I was treating my body.Through this I learned that fast food really does affect your body. When eating fast food I felt nasty and fat and I felt like I was mistreating my body, but when I ate healthy I know I was treating my body right.

Fast Food Nation

The book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser talks about different effects fast food has on the US as a nation. This book starts off by talking about different people examining the roles of the fast food industry in South Carolina. It talks about how the fast food industry has changed dramatically over the past couple of years. Schlosser talks about why the meat in fast food restaurants is so unhealthy too consume; it can cause much harm too your body and people don't take that into consideration. In 1997 approximately 35 million pounds of ground beef was recalled by Hudson Foods because a strain of E Coli was found in the food. However, by the time the beef was recalled, 25 million pounds had already been eaten.
This is the meat that we eat at fast food restaurants everyday. Schlosser says, "E. cols 0157:7 has recieved a good deal of public attention. Over the past two decades scientists have discovered more than a dozen other new foodborn pathogens, including Campylobecter, jeuni, cryptosporidium, parvum, cyclospora cayetanensis, listirmonocytogenes, and norwalk-like viruses. The CDC estimates that more than three quarters of the food-related illnesses and deaths in the United States are caused by infectious agents that have not yet been identified(Schlosser196)." Schlosser is proving a point throughout this by addressing that E Coli is in many of the meats in fast food industries which is killing many americans everyday. This is one of the many examples that Schlosser has to tell us about in his book,Fast Food Nation.
I have different opinions on this book.I think that what Scholosser did was a good thing, and he made me realize how bad fast food really is for me. I usually eat fast food alot during the weeks but after reading this book it changed my view on fast food and how much I will consume it. I never knew how bad it would affect our bodies by just eating one hamburger from Burger King, and I didn't realize that one simple thing like that could kill you. Im glad he wrote this book, now I pay more attention too what I eat everyday and where i eat it from.
Another thought i have on what Schlosser said is on how much criticism he gave all of the fast food restaurants. Many American love fast food and once they read this book, it will cause their income too decline. Fast Food Nation had a lot of law-suites against them because they made so many fast food restaraunts lose money. After reading this book, I know i will still eat fast food but hopefully not as much of it.

Fast Food
In this video, it's main look is at Mcdonalds and how unhealthy this place is for you. From a known fact, Mcdonalds conserves up to 46 million customers, and average an annual revenue of almost 20 billion dollars. This amount is ridiculous for someone to eat all the time, it can cause many different health issues with the body. This video contains obesity from this food, along with diabetes. French fries are known to be the most eaten vegetable in America, but also one of the worst to be bought from a place like this. Mcdonalds only has 7 items on the menu that does not contain sugar, which is a given that obviously this is not the most healthy place. Any type of food like this can cause heart disease if you have it on a daily basis.
In my opinion, I think it is crazy to eat foods like this when you know the consequences you might face. This video gave many facts that Mcdonalds or any other fast food restaraunt can cause harm to your body. I believe that people who are obese, get okay with that fact and feel like it is okay for this type of food because they give up on themselves. If you know that a place contains only 7 items with no sugar, there is obviously a problem. I would think that should stand out to many and make people realize how bad one type of food could be for you.

Avoiding Fast Food

In this article it talks about why people should avoid fast food and the unhealthy stuff it puts into your body. Writers even say that people only eat this particular type of food because it is cheap, and somewhere easy to stop by quickly. "The cost factor is certainly an understandable reason given the current state of the world economies and everyone's need to tighten up on their spending" (Stacel). Cost is a very big issue right now in the economy, so therefore it makes fast food be the most popular thing to consume into the body. According to many people, the money problem should not be an excuse for the way you feed yourself and your family. To break it down for the main concern of any humans body, fast food focuses on high fat/high sodium.
Every point that Stacel made across in this article is exactly how I feel about fast food. This is food is very tasty, which attracts many of people, but in my opinion you should always think about what you eat before putting it in your body. If something is as bad for you as doctors and others say, then I would rather go with eating fruits all day and everyday instead of something so fattening and disgusting for your body and health. In my eyes, it would be safer to take the route of living longer and healthier instead of having high cholesterol and living so unhealthy each and everyday.

A month of fast food?

In this article by Joanne Waldron, eighteen people were put to a study on if fast food can really make a difference in the health of your liver. During this they were asked to eat two meals a day at a fast food restaurant and restrict their physical activity. To see if this accusation was a fact the doctors took blood samples of each person at the beginning and then ever so often throughout it. This was to monitor the tole it was taking on each of there livers. At the end of the study, seventeen out of the eighteen had reached the goal of increasing their body weight by 5.
I believe that fast food is becoming more of a problem in todays society. People don't take into consideration on how it can truly harm your body. It is causing more deaths in todays generation then ever, because of the underestimate of the health issues. You need your liver to survive and it shows in this article by Joanne Waldron, "eating fast food continuously and not having a high activity lifestyle can surely damage not only the liver but other organs."
